non-white police guarding the "white" house

while in DC, as I was walking in front of the white house i passed a man with a camera, i heard him saying to his partner, wow, a Chinese police officer guarding the white house, i need to take a picture of that, thats a powerful picture. his partner said you should ask if it is okay. he says, this is a free country. i looked at him and said, are you sure of that? he said to me, isnt that a powerful picture, a Chinese police officer in front of the white house? I touched his arm and said that is very sad. He looked at me and then said, ya, your very right, it is, isnt it.

we began talking and it turned out he was from Trinidad. he was still going on about how amazing it was that this man was protecting the white house and i again told him that i found that to be oh so sad that he was so shocked by this. he said ya, its pretty amazing that this could affect him this way, being a free country and all.....

lets hope that the fact that our new pres is not a member of the "white male club" will help change such views of our country, god knows it is about freakin time for some change! Good job America for your voting decision! I never thought I would see this office being held by anyone other than a member of the white male club!

  2. believe think that would be wonderful!!!! I think it would be wonderful if race did not matter and have it be actually about the persons views. But some diversity is something that this country truly needs, I believe. What do you think about it?

Just to clarify, I thought it was sad that it seemed strange to the man that this person was a police man simply because he was Chinese. Not that it was sad that our country was being "protected" by a Chinese person. It didnt even occur to me that he was any different than the white guy standing next to him.
